The Austrian National Library is one of the oldest existing European libraries (14th century). The refurbishment of the main reading room relates to a building wing of the 19th century.

The following design objectives were implemented: checkpoint at the entrance, distribution and circulation system for visitors, reading areas on three levels with staircases and glazed elevator, book racks and EdP (Electronic data processing) lines for laptop connection, new furniture design chairs, tables, lighting system.
